Dendera – Review

Review:

Dendera - Edwin Hawkes, Nathan Collins, Yuya Sato

This book is so bad it doesn’t even have a decent ending. It’s one of those “You imagine what happens next!”

Overall this book has a tone of “women can’t do anything without a man, especially old women.” They bite each other’s backs and always talk about doing things, but never get them done.

The author, a dude, waxes on how weak old women are so much that when the bear attacks, they just turn into gibs like in FPS games. That.. doesn’t happen. Of course the women fail to attack the Village and thus the men are saved, as women hating men is baaad. Men hating women and thus tossing them onto a Mountain is goooood. I get the feeling the broauthor has some pent up issues about his grandparents.

Overall another misogynistic book, byt ...

So imagine a fanfiction about fighting games. OK.. now open your eyes! Yes this is a book that is basically about a dude that somehow gets a girlfriend and treats her like trash, but she sticks with him anyways. That’s after you are left wondering how they even hooked up and when they started dating as she’s mentioned so little past a part that you see on the cover where she’s squeeing for a stuffed animal and of course dudebro gets it for her. Also she’s terrible at fighting games of course.

Expect TONS of info dumping about how the fights are going, tons of info about button presses and how generally polygons are rendered. Tetsuo/Etsuro (KANEDA!) also describes real life sounds as “sound FX”.
Then in the end it’...

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book out of the series is probably the most boring. There’s lots of political maneuvering and one big battle right at the end that really doesn’t amount to much. However this book really speaks volumes to what’s going on today, right now. This book was written back in the 1980s and it’s almost a prediction for what Dump is doing. There are protestors being beaten and shot and then blamed for “starting riots”, there’s the military trying to gain control of the government and then there’s Trunicht.
So if you like Dump Truffle, you’ll hate this book as it specifically calls out crap like that.

TL;DR: Dumpster Fire This book is a dumpster fire.

So let’s have an author that doesn’t understand sex, gender and sexuality write a story that involves ALL of those and fuck it up so spectacularly. Add to that a homophobic soldier where being gay is supposedly OK? and wow.

So the Rounds are bigender, which shows the lack of understanding about what gender is. They love as male and are loved as female, thus the bigender. Yes women are passive and males are active. You have that pile of misogyny going on here. Next you have Rounds that want to be Unigender, who sabotage everything...

EVEN A MACHINE HAS ROUTINELY BEEN SEXUALIZED BY MEN AND USED AS A GO TO FOR HOW WOMEN SHOULD BE.

TL;DR: This isn’t some kind of thought provoking book. It’s a typical otaku wank fantasy light novel where all the women are sexualized, android maids think sexual assault is ok, and did I mention all the fetishes.

Here’s all my updates if you just want to read the highlights: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1718601690

Let us get a good look at the Japanese cover off to the right because that really tells us more about the book that the kind of esoteric cover that ViZ gave us. You can seen the random skin showing out of the outfit. This was chosen by and otaku programmer that is into “clumsy android girls”...

The rating here is for the TRANSLATION as I read a fan translation of the novel before.
For that review go here.

However ViZ/Haikasoru decided to treat us all like we are kids and give it the “Let’s modernize old sci-fi and make it modern cuz people r dum!” or something.
I’m sure the people reading this book all know that it was written in the 80s and that the anime is from the 80s, so changing the fact that Julian was reading republished books to “e-copies” is kind of a slap in the face to our intelligence. They don’t even stay consistent with the changes as 3D television was changed to… something else, however later in the book we are back to 3D displays.
Also suddenly we have to VERY SPECIFICALLY poin...
