Review: Honor’s Flight

This book is definitely an improvement over the first book, having no threat of sexual assault to get the point across that someone is evil. The after story however mentions slavers which is almost treading back into that territory.
The book however seems to change up some of the characters skin colors for some odd reason. Beck goes from being black to being “bronze” which reads to me that he has a much lighter skin tone.
Another factor that’s still there is the reliance on Leonidas to get them all out of a situation with his cyborg powers. Which once again means our hero has to rely on a man to bail her out of a situation.
It’s getting better slowly.

So I’m a bit conflicted with this book as I really enjoyed it. It was well written in a style that focused on the the characters more than the tech and it really did feel like I was reading an episode of some SciFi TV show. So good job there. There was a paragraph at the start however the was throwing me off, but it seems she just ditched that style right then and just went into good writing.

Wow this seemingly self-pub book was actually better than bad (it’s good!).

It’s not without problems, some I’ve mentioned in my musings. Namely how Hitomi is described.
It’s got it’s tropes, (looks 25, black hair… violet eyes!). Note however that there isn’t any romance in this book. There are maybe hints of it, but overall Hitomi refeshingly doesn’t pick up a dude.

HOWEVER
, it seems she needs a dudes help to get out of a few of her battles, namely after Kol catches her, namely Val.
Which is something I hated about the book.
“Oh we are running awa– NOPE captured!”
“OK this time FOR REALS runni– NOPE!”
“Alright third times a charm righ– NO!”
Though after the last time she basically (view spoiler)

The main problem I have with this book is that really nothing happens, then it ends. We spend a lot of time and words meeting characters, but we never really know much about them.
We spend a good deal with Carl, then he disappears. The rest of the character are somewhat indistinguishable from the others. Like Tia and Sadhina just feel about the same to me, even though they are two different people. We see Sethnakte a few times but past the fact he’s the asshole Pharaoh that’s all there is to him. Even Adrienne suffers from this to a degree.
The progress of the book is, find tablet, translate tablet, go to Brazil, end. That’s… all that happens...

The best book for the worst in YA!
Only it really failed to be THE WORST after my recent read. I honestly was liking the book as I was reading it and it got touching in parts. The end climax however got silly in parts with the repetition of words. However overall it’s a good “worst” book. It could have been more horrible in parts, so that was very lacking. I mean if you are going to be racist, don’t half-ass it. The misogyny was almost non-existant. We had Epistola that was the promiscuous scorned woman and Andi was the insignificant female to her might man man. Past that however I didn’t see enough girl hate, super blatant racism, nor horrible domestic abuse that is “sooo romantic”.

Still it was an enjoyable read and it c...
